School clusters can be any group of schools geographically close together, where the individual schools in the group interact or would like to interact with one another.

The material collected will form the basis of a research study analysing the benefits of clustering schools into working groups for various purposes.

Please share your experiences and help us build knowledge and understanding of this dynamic approach to school management and teaching practice!

About school clusters

School clusters exist in many countries around the world.
In Namibia, the process of clustering schools has had several interesting results:
  • Connecting teachers into focused networks
  • promoting participation in education structures
  • decentralising decision-making processes
  • encouraging creative solutions
  • advancing flexible and innovative approaches to school management and teaching practice
  • sharing skills and experience
  • empowering the stakeholders in education

School clustering is not always easy. For example, in Namibia there are great distances between some schools in remote clusters. A lack of facilities can make it difficult for all the schools in the cluster to participate and there are limited training opportunities.
Also there may be disagreement amongst the possible participants about whether clustering will actually help those involved, or just make life more difficult.
